Editor's Verdict
👍 Pros
- ✓Genuinely effective at eliminating tough odors — smoke, pet, and musty smells — according to a large volume of Home Depot and Amazon reviews
- ✓No filters to clean or replace on the ozone generator line, unlike traditional HEPA purifiers
- ✓Compact, portable design that's easy to move between rooms or use in cars, basements, and garages
- ✓Responsive, well-regarded customer service, including quick RMA/replacement handling even for international customers
- ✓Both ozone generators (for deodorizing unoccupied spaces) and separate HEPA air purifier models (like the APH260) are available depending on your need
👎 Cons
- ✕Ozone generators must only be used in unoccupied spaces — the EPA and independent testers note ozone itself is not safe to breathe and can make air quality worse while active
- ✕Some units are not available for sale in California due to state ozone-emission regulations
- ✕A lingering metallic smell has been reported by some users that can persist for days after treatment
- ✕Control dials/knobs on some models have been reported as flimsy or confusing to operate
- ✕Odor elimination is often temporary if the underlying odor source isn't also addressed, requiring repeated treatments

Frequently Asked Questions
No — the EPA and Airthereal's own instructions state ozone generators must only be used in unoccupied spaces. People and pets should leave the room during treatment and wait roughly 30 minutes after the cycle ends before re-entering, to let the ozone fully dissipate.
Ozone generators (like the MA5000 and MA10K-PRO) are designed to deodorize unoccupied spaces and cannot be run while people are present. Airthereal's separate HEPA air purifier line (like the APH260) filters the air continuously and is safe to run in occupied rooms.
Many reviewers report noticeable, lasting improvement, though some note that persistent odor sources (like pet stains) may require repeated treatments over time, as the underlying source can continue producing odor.

Previous occupants of our trailer had cats, and this unit eliminated every trace of odor and left it smelling fresh and new.

Had an issue with my ozone generator and their support team troubleshot it with me, then sent a replacement free of charge. Highly recommend the equipment and the company.

Worked well on smoke smell, but left a slight metallic scent afterward that took a couple days to fully go away. Still better than what we had before.
